Walking Tour Cologne-Südstadt: Südstadt and Severin Quarter
Cologne’s Südstadt district is known for its original and typical Kölsch atmosphere. An increasing number of young people are taking over the area, shaping the culinary trends found here. Our tour begins in the “Vringsveedel,” as the people of Cologne fondly call the area around St. Severin.

On our Südstadt Tour, we’ll stroll along Severinsstraße, which became infamous in 2009 following the dramatic collapse of the city archive. Guests will learn several interesting tidbits about Cologne’s southern district, including how Reichsmarschall von Hindenburg came to be in favor of peace, and how the area is home to not only a living room mosque, but was also the birthplace of a Literature Nobel Prize laureate.

In addition to the cultural aspects of the walking tour, guests will be able to sample culinary delights from carefully selected stores and discover the Kölsch way of life and food! During the food tour through the Südstadt, you’ll learn about everything from the history and sights to the entertainment and architecture as you sample a variety of culinary specialties and discover the Cologne’s best-kept secrets.

Tasty samples from the following locales:

  • a French specialty shop
  • a relaxed salad bar
  • a wine store with a gourmet food section
  • an ice cream parlor
  • a traditional, organic butcher shop
  • a typical Venetian osteria
  • an art-themed coffee bar

For most, the food samples are enough to constitute a full lunch. Please inform us of any special dietary requirements (vegetarian, diabetic etc). We will try to tailor our tour accordingly.
Please Note: The tour is not suitable for vegans, people with lactose or gluten intolerance, or those with nut allergies.
