Walking Tour Cologne Deutz: A lively mix of the traditional and contemporary (Premiere on August 12th, 2017)
Tag along on a culinary journey around the Deutzer Freiheit, which has been the heart of the city center for over a century now. Easy to miss at first given its compact size, the small shopping street draws in tourists and locals alike with its wonderful shops, cafés, restaurants, and gourmet food stores – don’t forget to have a peek at the enchanting side streets as well.

Now the international trading center, the history of Cologne is steeped in history and marks the spot where the Romans once guarded a bridge against the Teutons, the Prussians established their fort, and Deutz became the hub of rail traffic. As time has progressed and the city has evolved, thankfully the charm of the shopping streets has remained unaffected. If you would like to hear “Verzällcher” about the Deutz neighborhood, or why the residents of Cologne like to speak of the “Schäl Sick,” then this is the tour for you!

Trust the other side of the Rhine River for once, and let yourself be guided through Deutz as you take in the stunning view of the Cologne Cathedral and the local St. Heribert basilica. Discover the lively quarter for yourself and experience the vibe of the area, a mix between traditional and contemporary, as you sample culinary delights, hear about the town history, and receive insider tips about the neighborhood.

Tasty samples from the following locales:

  • a sushi restaurant
  • a specialty store for wines, vinegars, and oils
  • a tea shop
  • a regional café
  • a modern restaurant
  • a popular grill bistro
  • a cozy neighborhood café

For most, the food samples are enough to constitute a full lunch. Please inform us of any special dietary requirements (vegetarian, diabetic etc). We will try to tailor our tour accordingly.
Please Note: The tour is not suitable for vegans, people with lactose or gluten intolerance, or those with nut allergies.
