Walking Tour Bamberg-Gärtnerstadt: A culinary journey through the hidden green quarter
Vegetable gardening has been a common occurrence in Bamberg since the late Middle Ages when the city gardeners would export their products far beyond the borders of Bamberg. The large urban garden plots, as well as the numerous preserved historic garden sheds in the midst of a city, are quite unique in Germany, and were a large contributing factor in the selection of Bamberg as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

On our tour we will retrace the steps of the cozy city’s former residents, and experience the lively gardener culture which has survived until today. We’ll leisurely stroll along a historic trade route, follow the district’s architectural and urban changes during the Industrial Age, and gain a perspective into the cinema culture.

On our city tour through the green quarter of the city we’ll visit a greenhouse, stop at numerous traditional culinary establishments, and try scrumptious samples from trendy cafés and restaurants.

You will find an exciting range of culinary stations on your tour, such as:

  • a traditional bakery
  • a gourmet food store
  • a butcher shop with a twist
  • an organic greenhouse
  • a restaurant with Bamberg delicacies
  • a restaurant serving regional dishes
  • a coffee shop

For most, the food samples are enough to constitute a full lunch. Please inform us of any special dietary requirements (vegetarian, diabetic etc). We will try to tailor our tour accordingly.
Please Note: The tour is not suitable for vegans, people with lactose or gluten intolerance, or those with nut allergies.
