Walking Tour Hamburg-Ottensen: Nordic and cordial
Today, the working class district formerly known as Mottenburg is one of the trendiest and highly-demanded. Many pubs and charming restaurants call this area home, ensuring a broad offering of lively activities. In this village-like district, experience the cordiality of the supposedly-reserved people of Hamburg.

In the formerly Danish-occupied city of Ottensen, our district tour begins at the Altona train station and leads you back and forth through picturesque, winding streets as we introduce you to the locals’ favorite spots, long-established restaurants, cultural sights, and culinary insider tips. Experience the transformation of a former industrial site characterized by hard work, ingenuity, the fight for women's rights, and a proletariat history to what has now become one of Hamburg's most popular nightlife and residential areas.

During the tour you will learn about the history of the Danish occupation and industrialization, architecture, art, culture, entertainment, and life today as you sample various culinary specialties and discover exclusive restaurant recommendations and tips. Learn about life in Ottensen through its food, the diverse shop culture, and its people.

You will find an exciting range of culinary stations on your tour, such as:

  • a candy shop
  • a Swiss confectionery shop
  • a hidden treasure of a restaurant
  • a big name restaurant
  • one of the last mobile fish delicatessens

For most, the food samples are enough to constitute a full lunch. Please inform us of any special dietary requirements (vegetarian, diabetic etc). We will try to tailor our tour accordingly.
Please Note: The tour is not suitable for vegans, people with lactose or gluten intolerance, or those with nut allergies.
