Walking Tour Hamburg-Altona: The lively quarter at the gates of Hamburg
Starting at the momentous Altona railway station, our culinary tour will guide you through the constantly transitioning Große Bergstraße, one of the oldest streets of Hamburg; with several hidden gems and numerous stopovers at exciting places, there is always plenty more to discover off the beaten track.
Learn more about the historical Lessers Passage as you walk towards Palmaille, the classical boulevard which is an attraction in itself in the story of the old Altona district. It is truly here that the paths of great discoveries, notable personalities, and the former center of the world intersect.
The rich smells of fish, salt, and tar will steer you towards the famous fishing port where you will be able to marvel at the picturesque banks of the Elbe and enjoy various Altona delicacies as you experience true Hamburg port cuisine at Germany’s gateway to the world.
You will find an exciting range of culinary stations on your tour, such as:
- an East Asian sweets shop
- a quaint mom and pop store
- a top Italian spot
- the last of its kind in Hamburg
- a café for connoisseurs
For most, the food samples are enough to constitute a full lunch. Please inform us of any special dietary requirements (vegetarian, diabetic etc). We will try to tailor our tour accordingly.
Please Note: The tour is not suitable for vegans, people with lactose or gluten intolerance, or those with nut allergies.
Moreover, the tour is not recommended for those with mobility limitations due to the large number of stairways.
