Walking Tour Lüneburg-Old Town: the picturesque center of the Hanseatic city
Our tour through Lüneburg’s historic Old Town district will begin at St. John’s Church where the young Johann Sebastian Bach once learned to play the organ. From the "Am Sande" square, which today serves as the city’s center, we will stroll through the neighborhood’s winding alleys of the Old Town and past many of the gabled and half-timbered houses typical of Lüneburg.

The splendid architecture is a lasting testament to the considerable wealth of the master salter: the Lüneburg Saltworks saltern is amongst the largest in all of Germany and is responsible for making Lüneburg a major city and the salt house of the Hanseatic League during the Middle Ages. The thousand-year history of the picturesque Hanseatic city stands in stark contrast to the current lively flair of Lüneburg, which is nowadays a major hotspot for young people, as well as families and prominent gastronomes.

Join us on a cultural culinary journey through the most beautiful corners of Lüneburg - the city in which Heinrich Heine wrote “The Lorelei” and where every evening the Town Hall plays "The Moon has Risen". Let yourself be spoiled by our culinary partners and their delicious culinary delights!

Delicious food samples from:

  • an exquisite chocolate factory steeped in tradition
  • a modern French-Arab bistro
  • a lovingly-managed gourmet food store
  • a gourmet café with a feel-good atmosphere
  • a family business with 300 different types of cheese
  • a sustainable café with a cozy, rustic flair
  • a traditional restaurant with a medieval charm

For most, the food samples are enough to constitute a full lunch. Please inform us of any special dietary requirements (vegetarian etc). We will try to tailor our tour accordingly.
Please Note: The tour is not suitable for vegans, people with lactose or gluten intolerance, or those with nut allergies.
