Walking Tour Duisburg-Dell Quarter: The versatile neighborhood located in the heart of downtown
The Dell Quarter as we know it today was still unsettled during the Middle Ages and was situated outside the former city walls. In fact, it was not until the 19th century that the neighborhood, and especially its network of roads, first expanded and eventually contributed to the development of Duisburg as a large city while the quarter’s centrally located Dell Square, which radiates out into several streets, became an important market center. Following the numerous bombing raids carried out on Duisburg during World War II, almost the entire city had to be rebuilt, which resulted in the establishment of various cultural institutions in the area during the 1960s.

Stroll with us along Königstraße—the most important shopping street in the city and the link between the city’s historic and modern locales—and discover the Dell Square with its unique hexagonal shape and numerous restaurants, cultural attractions, and hotspots where the nights have been known to last for days. But there’s so much more to the neighborhood, including its several green areas, most notably the Immanuel Kant Park which allows its residents and visitors to relax and take in the beautiful views.

Learn more about the oldest community movie theater in Germany and check out the 1960s museum which houses an outstanding collection of international modern art. Join us on a culinary adventure to Duisburg’s Dell Quarter and saunter through the tapered streets and alleys full of extraordinary charm.
