Walking Tour Bamberg-Old Town: A journey through 1000 years of local history
The Old Town of Bamberg is the largest cohesive old town entity in Germany and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1993. On our tour of discovery through 1000 years of city history, we will stroll along the winding streets of the Old Town and experience the hustle and bustle of everyday life in what is today the concentrated area for business and student life.
Island City, which was home to the artisans and served as the civic center of Bamberg, makes up the core of the Old Town and is formed by the two arms of the Regnitz River. Here we will visit the Old Harbor in the picturesque fishing district of Little Venice and meet the tanners and market people before crossing one of the many bridges of the Old Town Hall leading into Hill Town, the spiritual center of the city.
The culinary stations will offer an exciting and tasty mix of traditional craft shops, international cuisine, and modern venues.
Tasty samples from the following locales:
- a Turkish bistro
- a fruit & coffee shop
- a frozen yogurt bar
- a traditional bakery
- a traditional butcher shop
- a traditional café
- a chocolate confectionery
For most, the food samples are enough to constitute a full lunch. Please inform us of any special dietary requirements (vegetarian, diabetic etc). We will try to tailor our tour accordingly.
