Walking Tour Hamburg-Ottensen: Nordic and cordial
Today, the working class district formerly known as Mottenburg is one of the trendiest and highly-demanded. Many pubs and charming restaurants call this area home, ensuring a broad offering of lively activities. In this village-like district, experience the cordiality of the supposedly-reserved people of Hamburg.

In the once Danish-occupied Ottensen, we begin our tour at Altona Station. We will then lead you through the small, winding streets. We will show you the locals’ favorite places, long-established gastronomic establishments and secret culinary tips. Learn about Ottensen's multilayered history: where smuggling began, ship’s propellers were invented, cigars were rolled and women’s rights were fought for. Join us on a fascinating walk and discover Ottensen’s culinary world for yourself.

During the tour of Ottensen, you will learn about its history, architecture and entertainment offerings. Sample Ottensen's culinary specialities, and receive recommendations to specially selected restaurants. Get to know Hamburg through its food, culture and people, and join us on our food tour!

Delicious food samples:

  • a traditional butcher shop (founded in 1836)
  • one of the last mobile fish delicatessens
  • a Portuguese café and restaurant
  • a vibrant shop for kids and adults alike
  • a Swiss confectionery
  • "the oldest" of the city
  • a candy store

For most, the food samples are enough to constitute a full lunch. Please inform us of any special dietary requirements (vegetarian, diabetic etc). We will try to tailor our tour accordingly.
Please Note: The tour is not suitable for vegans, people with lactose or gluten intolerance, or those with nut allergies.
