Just in time for Christmas, the Christmas goose is back visiting in German kitchens. The Christmas goose is the traditional and essential part of a festive meal of the year. Goose is cooked mainly here on Christmas Eve or the first or second day of Christmas. But how is it that the Christmas goose was such an integral part of many German kitchens and how you eat the Christmas goose, anyway?


The origin of roast goose is a Catholic custom. Before the start of the Advent fasting period on 11 November is eaten, the so-called St. Martin's goose. On Christmas Eve this Lent ends again what a Christmas goose, eaten as a festive meal is.
